Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

A smattering of reviews from around the globe...

"Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is a horrible experience of unbearable length, briefly punctuated by three or four amusing moments...If you want to save yourself the ticket price, go into the kitchen, cue up a male choir singing the music of hell, and get a kid to start banging pots and pans together. Then close your eyes and use your imagination." (Roger Ebert)

"Like watching paint dry while getting hit over the head with a frying pan!" (Bradshaw, London Guardian)

"Sums up everything that is most tedious, crass and despicable about modern Hollywood!" (Tookey, Daily Mail)

"A giant, lumbering idiot of a movie!" (Edwards, Daily Mirror)

"I hated every 149 minutes. This is so bad it's immoral. Michael Bay is a time-sucking vampire who will feast off your lost time. This is why the movie is so long." (Victoria Alexander, Films in Review.com)

"Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, is such a pointless, messy assault on the senses that it's hard to even call it a movie. There is little intelligible plot, no characters to root for and hardly even a sense of place. What's left is basically a two-plus hour special effects reel. Even for a Michael Bay movie, it's just truly awful." (Joe Lozito, BigPictureBigSound)

And the ONE positive thing I could find (drum roll, please):

"Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen is good when it is good, but extremely, shockingly, horrifyingly bad when it is bad." (Willie Waffle, WaffleMovies.com)

So...what do you think? Have you seen it? Will you?

I caught the midnight premeire of this movie last night at hollywood cinema, and i did think it was a bit long. Some of these reviews have a point, but at the same time, some just trashed it without explanation...

These 2 reviews don't even back up their arguements. Some of the reviews i agree with, and others i don't... but about no characters to root for, that part is somewhat true. Itr did have more "things" in it that #1. I don't think i enjoyed it quite as much as the first one.. Maybe i would have enjoyed it a bit more if i hadn't had to sit next to a collage girl who could out curse a drunken sailor-and did pretty much every time she opened her mouth-....but i know, i'm getting off topic. I don't know if any of you care or not, but i'm giving it 3 stars of of 5. the first one i give 4 1/2 out of 5....

To be fair to the reviewers, I only posted one line from their reviews.

When looking at some of the reviews we have to remember....They do this for a living so some of the movies they say are bad may be great to others...example Dark knight, Star Track, knowing..etc.

Anonymous said...

I'm going to see it

The Dark Knight received terrific reviews across the board. So did Star Trek. Pick something else. :)

wow...I'm really sad. It looked like it was going to be good. Too bad. I may just go see it to get my opinion on it.

I'll say that I'm disappointed with the reviews; however, I still really want to see the movie.

I think everyone should make up their own minds anout this. I saw the midnight premiere of it, and it wasn't quite as good as the first one [some length {both shortness and long} issus played a part in that] but it was still a good movie-though it had a lot of those moments....
Would i reccommend this movie? Yeah, sure....

I have yet to see it. I have heard there is some pretty course language in it. Is that true?

Further, and maybe more interestingly, the movie has gotten some criticism for some crass racial stereotyping with a couple of the robots. Are the criticisms valid?

Yeah. The two robots they're talking about seem pretty obviously ghetto stereotypes.
Aside from all the crude language, rather disgusting actions, ridiculous length and annoyingness of all humans, I think the thing that annoys me most is the lack of character depth, especially in the Transformers themselves. The 'Transformers' movies don't really center around the Transformers at all! They're more "haha Sam Witwicky going through puberty", "look at Megan Fox! she's hot!", "haha stupid jokes we totally think are funny because we're teenagers and we like crude humor better than well thought out humor!", and "look! explosions! oh hey there're some robots, too!". I personally agree with most of those reviews. I'd also like to add that Michael Bay apparently doesn't know where Egypt and Jordan are in relation to each other.
So, yeah. But to one who's not very familiar with the Transformers universe, I can see how these movies would be more enjoyable. But knowing how much Michael Bay is screwing up makes me and my siblings a bit upset. I'll step off my soapbox, now.

Let me be clear, I make no judgments on the film. I've not seen it so I can't really. My hope is to engender conversation on the movie , which I think is moving along nicely. Thanks, guys and gals!

*****WARNING: CONTAINS SPOILERS***********

Some red flags:
When they get transported to Egypt by the old timer decepticon-turned-autobot, Sam's girlfriend magically wraps his hand up in medical wrap-why would she have that on her person?
The action was good, although at times, [like at the ending -optomis vrs the fallen] the battle is way too short to be realistic, and to some people, anti-climactic to the story because you think, "two hours for Optimus to be brought back to life so he could punch him once and kill him?"
No character depth [as previously stated] the movie doesn't really get close to, or provide depth to any of the characters except Sam and his girlfriend.
The Ex Sector 7 man [Simmons] zaps Sam's college roommate in the neck with a bug-zapper knocking him out, and then 2 minutes later, he is awake and running to one of the “twins” in car form with Simmons.
And, after Sam, his girlfriend, bumblebee, the little RC [the one with the remote controlled truck as his vehicle form] decepticon-turned-autobot, and the “twins” find the “Matrix” in the ruins, the little RC decepticon-turned-autobot disappears from the movie-just like that-
When the catlike decepticon sent his little “BB’s into that complex to form a small decepticon, and steal the cube shard, you probably thought, “There should be more security than that!”
Also, all of the language that is spewed by the two “twin” autobots was probably something that you noticed, as well as many other crass statements.
Since I don’t want to give out too many spoilers, I’m going to finish with that. Well? Were some of the things I mentioned things that ran through your head or that you considered?

See? I told you I would post when I had time

Anonymous said...

OH! I forgot! The vision Sam has of the 8 origonal Primes telling him that he must bring optimus back to life-i thought that was kind of lame.

Anonymous said...

Actually none of those thoughts went through my head, and I'm not just saying that to prove you wrong. I did think it developed the characters enough, especially because they had been developing since the first movie, and I thought the final battle was fine. I was upset but how much sexual content there was in the movie, and as a movie in whole I would not buy it, or recommend it to anyone, but I loved Optimus Prime. I think the only thing you got right was that I did wonder where the little robot that was hanging around Michaela the whole time went, but that was pretty much it.

Anonymous said...

........Well, different minds think differently. I had the same thoughts aboiut the sexual content-i found it completely un-necessary and somewhat dissapointing-i mean is that the best kind of humor they can come up with nowadays??

I don't see what the big idea with going to see a movie about cars that want to take over teh world. Doesn't OptimusPrime and Decepticon sound a little cliche to you? Two of their themes were:

"Transformers robots in disguise"
and
"Transformers more than meet sthe eye"

kinda cheesey to me. I haven't seen teh movie but I have seen transformers animated and that was pretty bad.

Anonymous said...

Well they are not just cars, and not all of them are trying to take over the world. Some of them are trying to save us. It's not supposed to be practical, it's a fictional movie made for entertainment. Some of the action sequences are really cool, and I love it when the robots transform because it's looks so cool.

And-The Transformers in the new movies are nothing like the boxish shaped transformers of old.

Despite the fact that I never saw the first one, I wasn't that impressed with Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Actually, I was really let down. There are so many things that can be put down about this movie. Like the crude sexual jokes in every other scene. The guy with the thong!!! What's up with that!! Meagan Fox's boring acting. The idiotic parents they wasted film on.
Yes, those things took away from the movie. But still, even if those things weren't in the movie; it still wouldn't have been very impressive. The plot wasn't that great.
It did have its good parts. The fighting was good. Optimus Prime was, and always will be, awesome. The special effects were good too.
So with all this said, if you wanna go see this movie GO FOR IT. In my opinion this movie is not special or fantastic. You decide if its worth $8.50.

Linkin Park was the best things about that movie.

what guy was wearing a thong?

OK... after reading the comments I have to say I am not going see that.
I would rather not watch cars beat the stuffing out of other cars once in the moveie.
Not enough action for an action movie.

There is no reason to put sex scenes in a move... another reason why I am not going to see that movie ever.

One thing I did not like about Star Wars 2 (dont get me wrong, I am a Star Wars freak.) was they didnt keep it as realistic as I would have liked (I could tell you a lot of things but that would take a lot of time), and after reading the "Spoiler" I dont want to spend the whole movie wispering back and forth with my brother saying how unrealistic or what the Director forgot the movie is.

Now I think it would be interesting to see it... but I dont want to walk away saying "I didn't like that movie".
